📍45, Gana St, Maitama (just behind KARE)
A few weeks back, I got an invitation to a ‘tasting’ at The Brunch Club. Been a while I attended one so I was quite excited to try new dishes and meet up with other food bloggers to talk all things food and our experiences.

AMBIENCE:
Generally, I was confused on what vibe the restaurant was trying to give. From the white rustic decor in the outside inside space, to the painted wall at the entrance, then moving into the pods inside.

I know one of the pods had an image of Santorini in it so I was wondering if we were meant to feel as if we were there. Cause hmmn.

FOOD:
Again, I was confused on what exactly the theme was here. It’s called the Brunch Club, but we were presented with not so brunch-y meals.
We weren’t presented a menu or given an explanation on it either, but I expected some pancakes, waffles, some pastry like croissants, scones etc too. I felt for a tasting, something from each section would’ve helped.
Cafe Latte – N2,500

Virgin Mojito – N3,500 x Orange Juice – N3,500

Chicken Wings in Brunch Senbai Sauce – N3500
These had a play between sweet and salty. More on the sweet side. I loved that it was still crunchy despite it being covered in sauce

Herb Chilli Calamari – N4000
(fried calamari tossed in sweet and spicy chili sauce)
Quite spicy, texture was crispy but chewy.

Cholle Bature – N4200
(indian bread puff fried, served with chickpeas sauce)
First time trying this meal. Only time I eat chickpeas are in a falafel or hummus. We joked about how this was basically an indian version of Ewa Agoyin. It was rich and tasted great with the bread.

Caesar Salad with Chicken Supreme – N4000
Simply underwhelming. Chicken was dry and the dressing was salad cream instead of a Caesar dressing.

Brunched Surf x Turf – N5500
(decker filled w crispy chicken, beef & prawns, caramelized onions w strawberry tar tar sauce. Served with french toast)
That’s a lot of things in a burger, but I’m sure I’d have absolutely loved it. The more the merrier.

Brunch Jollof – N5500
(rice served w peppered turkey wings and plantain)
Your basic palm oil rice. Nothing really stood out about it.

Brunch Penne – N6800
(shrimps, calamari, chicken in bit spicy ragu tomatoes sauce drizzled with a cream)
Good portion size with generous amounts of protein in there, but just like the rice, nothing really distinct about it.

SERVICE:
Service was below par, slow and disorganized. Again, for a tasting, I expected more organization cause you know exactly the number of people coming, which gives you time to prep ahead.
SALMAH’S SIDENOTE/CONCLUSION:
Barely enjoyed my time here, well except for the food, there were a few hits there! I hope to come back on a regular day and try the actual brunch meals, cause I believe the spot has potential.
