Mar’s Cafe | Abuja

📍 Ground Floor – Natsu Mall, 9 Kampala Street, off Adetokumbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse 2

Hello 2024! 🤩

It’s another year to try out new restaurants & experiences while making new memories with my favorite people.

Few days after NY, my friends & I visited Mar’s Cafe for brunch! A great time was had.

AMBIENCE:

Walking into the cafe, I already hoped this wouldn’t be a case of ‘amazing interior space over food quality & experience’.

Mar’s cafe has a beautifully thought out space which can sit about 20 – 25 people at a time, including the bar seating. Minimal decor in terms of furniture & lighting and great attention to detail like the Christmas coasters.

I initially sat on one of the stools, which I would not recommend. Super uncomfortable. Eventually moved to a table that had chairs which was way better!

FOOD:

We had visited during the first week of Jan so the Festive Menu was up. As a Brunch lover, I was eager to try so many things on the menu.

Orange Juice x Matcha Latte

Always gotta start with the refreshing drinks!

Beef Shawarma Hash

(with crispy potatoes, aleppo fried egg, pickled onions, harissa mayo)

I was most interested in trying this dish because the last time I had it was in London, Jan 2020. I absolutely loved the play of textures and each item was seasoned perfectly. Potatoes all had the same consistency, beef was tender & the pickled onions weren’t so sour!

Asked for my egg to be slightly runny (medium) but it came in well done. Wasn’t entirely happy with that. Nonetheless I know I’ll be back for this.

Spicy Rigatoni Pasta

Waay too small a portion for the price, but it tasted really good. A play between sweet and savory but definitely not ‘spicy’. Chicken was however tender and well seasoned.

The Big Breakfast

(fried eggs, hash browns, chicken/lamb sausages, tomatoes, sautéed kale, baked beans, mushrooms, toast)

A very big breakfast indeed! I remember watching Omotola pace herself while eating her meal. I personally avoid having ‘American/English’ breakfast meals because of how basic they are.

However, Mar’s cafe decided to be different by adding in some hash browns! I was quite excited to try them because we don’t really have those here. Slightly underwhelming, but the flavor was there. I wished the outer layer was more crispy than it was.

SERVICE:

Service was alright at first, however, it began to lack when the cafe started getting packed.

Food came in a timely fashion, except we had to wait an extra 15 minutes for the last dish to be brought out.

So two of us sat waiting for the last plate while our food was getting cold. Hopefully timing is improved.

SALMAH’S SIDENOTE:

Perfect place to find gourmet breakfast meals and for grabbing a quick bite with someone. I love the intention behind the restaurants concept and I genuinely hope the standard is kept.
