Urban Social | Abuja

📍Jabi Lake Mall, Bala Sokoto Way, Jabi

So I visited the newly opened Urban Social for lunch over the weekend and we had quite an eventful evening.

AMBIENCE:

One of the reasons I visit Jabi Lake Mall is for the Waterfront Restaurants. Nothing beats good views & food over great company!

I love the various seating options the space provided.

Indoor, which had a large mural to the left of the bar and seating to the right. Then there was the Terrace, which I refer to as indoor-outdoor space. Lastly we have the boardwalk seating itself which overlooks the lake.

FOOD:

Sweet Corn Soup (Veg) – N4,000

My friend mentioned the soup was lacking flavor which I agreed with. I understand that it’s ‘vegetable’ soup, but it was still lacking some depth with the flavor.

Lamb Dumplings – N6,000

The dumplings were my least favorite part of the experience. Its wrapper got super soggy due to the steam, so once you picked up a piece with your chopsticks, the wrapper would tear & the filling would literally drop from the bottom. The kitchen was kind enough to replace the batch, but the new one STILL fell apart.

Dragon Roll & California Roll – N6,000 each

Both sushis were also underwhelming but the California Roll particularly was quite dry & chewy.

Nasi Goreng – N9,000

This is my first time trying a Nasi Goreng so I genuinely have nothing to compare it to. However, I’ve had a similar meal at Chaophraya called ‘Khao Pad Ka Prao’. Same flavors & concept, just that the latter was more spicy. Its giving Ghana vs Nigerian Jollof.

I enjoyed this dish the most out of everything else. The texture of the rice was good, however that lack of flavor played a role here again. It also had a generous amount of shrimp in the mix. The chicken skewers could have been a lot more tender, but the flavor was there.

SERVICE:

A lot of mistakes were made, but we appreciate that the staff were willing to solve them.

SALMAH’S SIDENOTE:

Would I visit again? Most likely just for the Nasi Goreng!

Had it as takeaway and it tasted so good while I caught up on Power on Netflix.
